The second charter of the Kerhonkson Lions Club was granted on January 6, 1947. Membership has declined in recent years, but we are still holding strong at 30. The first women were inducted in 1998 and 10% of the club are Lady Lions. The club is made up of local citizens from the Towns of Wawarsing & Rochester. Each year we operate on a budget of about $2500. Monies are collected mostly through tag days. Most of the dollars are given back to the community the year we collect them. We recently set up a scholarship at the RVCHS. Each Christmas/Chanukah season we visit the Brookside School in Cottekill and the Kerhonkson Elementary school. Approximately 425 gifts are purchased and distributed. There are many other causes that we support. The Rochester Youth Comm., Indian Little League, First Aide Squad, Camber of Commerce and the Ellenville Hospital. The Club is now active in efforts to revitalize downtown Kerhonkson.
